Back in December, I heard the call and drumming of a Red-Bellied Woodpecker - a funny name because the red is usually on their heads, not their middles - and scrambled outside with my camera as quietly as I possibly could to try & get a photo of its vibrant presence. I managed to snap one from across the yard, but when I returned to the house I realized the focus was on the tree and not the woodpecker. The photo was pretty in its own way, just not what I was hoping for. Since that moment, I was intent on shooting a photo with the correct object in focus. When the opportunity presented itself during a snow day I was only able to get shots through a window, much like with the Blue Jay and some Dark-Eyed Juncos from the day before; still, it was good enough to be featured in the Snap Community on Vero! I'm quite proud of what I captured and I will treasure these wintery photos of the woodpecker with the puzzling name.
